Tee Public Site Review | Summary:

Tee Public was started in 2013 by the people behind BustedTees, and the site has arrived at the perfect time. With the rapidly growing number of great t-shirt artists and the battle amongst daily t-shirt sites to feature more than one design at a time, the inevitable solution is a site that can feature all of these artists' designs at prices that can compete with the shirt-a-day sites. Tee Public has nearly accomplished that. I say nearly because not all of Tee Public's shirts are $14. That price point only applies to the first 72 hours after new shirts have been uploaded, as well as to Tee Public's currently featured artists. The rest of their shirts sell for $20.

In corresponding with one of the guys behind Tee Public prior to writing this review, he emphasized the importance of the competitive $14 price point in driving sales. He went on to say that $20 isn't too bad either for the remaining Tee Public shirts. Sure, $20 isn't too bad when compared with sites like RedBubble. However, you won't divert many sales from daily t-shirt sites at that price point, especially when many of the same artists are often featured on those sites. I would rather wait for the design to show up on a daily t-shirt site for $10-$15 than drop $20 right now.

In the end, for Tee Public to effectively capture a large portion of the daily t-shirt market, they need to offer as many shirts as they can at prices that compete with the daily shirt sites. Tee Public also needs to make sure they only accept a certain level of talent and don't let their system become flooded with subpar designs (they currently screen an artist's first upload before allowing them to continue to upload designs). I'll admit that I'm enthused about Tee Public. Similar in some ways to NeatoShop, they've come along at a time when the industry needs such a site. My only hope is that they understand how to best capture the market that is at their fingertips.
